Phantasy Star Online 2, Gallery & Gameplay Video

Apr 24, 2011

One of the great games to come out on the Sega Dreamcast was Phantasy Star Online (PSO) it used the revolutionary feature of the built in online capabilities of the console and was one of the first online games to really go global.

The game itself was different, it made you work together to bring down bigger more powerful enemies, introduced trading and barter between real people and evolved its own currency in the form of photon drops. Players loved it even going as far as setting up their own servers when the originals closed down, have a look at their website if you are still keen to get the original PSO back online. Aren’t we good to you here at Arcade?

Well that was back in 2001, and now in its 10th year there is a sequel coming. Sega bring us Phantasy Star Online 2. Looking at the vid, there will be a few changes to the game play, but the overall look of the game will be familiar. We Are Arcade will bring you more details as they are released, we will be keeping a very close eye on this one.

If your Japanese is any good, they are recruiting Alpha testers until May 20th, Click HERE best of luck!

So are you a PSO player? Had it on the Dreamcast or other format? I am a longtime lover of the game, share your experiences and thoughts with the world by leaving some comments!

Wow! I was so addicted to this game on the DC (and had the phone bills to prove it). Spent far too much time grinding for the best gear and weapons however it was incredibly rewarding. I had a pop at the ‘Universe’ game on the 360 too, sadly though it was under populated and rather dull.

My only concern is that this MMO will have a lot of competition from western games such as GuildWars 2, SWTOR and of course the unstoppable WoW.

Fingers crossed that instead of chasing the PC market they will release on consoles instead, thus avoid the above mentioned games and show that MMO’s can and do work on consoles. Looking at this video though the interface/hud does look like a PC build.

A few MMO’s are leaning towards multiple consoles. Just because it’s shows up like a PC Hud, doesn’t mean it’ll just be on PC.

Looks awesome (and yes already it looks far better than PSU.. I never liked that even from the demo), so I agree with the above and hope it does go for console release.

Not a big MMO guy. They tend to rob me of common sense and make me cranky.

But this! It looks fun. o3o I may have to cave. We shall see, Phantasy Star. you may finally have lured me in, with your shiny outfits and anime babes and interesting gameplay that I’m crossing my fingers won’t lag to hell and back on my less than amazing connection, ebcause I want to play you, and play you like a boss. >:C
